Learn how to integrate Attribution and Segment

Attribution has a seamless integration with Segment that will allow us to piggy back on their first-party data to easily build a flexible dashboard for your team. Attribution is fully compatible with Segment Spec and supports all major APIs for Identify, Track, Page, Group and Alias.
Connecting the destination
In Segment, add the Attribution (Actions) destination to the source that carries your website or app events, and paste your Attribution Project ID from the settings page into its Project ID field. The default Send Events mapping forwards every identify, track, page, screen, group and alias call; nothing else needs to be configured. Data starts appearing on your dashboard after the next refresh.
Two Attribution destinations in the Segment catalogThe catalog also lists the original Attribution destination. It keeps working for the projects already connected through it, but new installs should use Attribution (Actions), which is the version we maintain and extend.

Segment bidirectional integration
Attribution support sending back attributed data as user traits and additional events from Attribution Conversion integrations back to Segment, for more information please follow Segment Bidirectional Setup guide.
Historical data import
With Segment it's possible to "replay" your existing data into Attribution, however usually it has limited value. The main reason for that is that your traffic needs to be properly filtered by Ad Channels - Attribution does this automatically once ad platforms are being connected but this only applies to data going forward. Attribution adds tracking parameters to your Ad Platforms and automatically creates filters to track your Ad Campaigns with their spending.
In case of historical import, we do recommend importing last 90 days of data only, also you will need to manually create filters based on your UTM parameters and populate them with Spend amounts - if you don't have capabilities to do that, historical data import will have limited value for being used in attribution models. The same limits apply to any import; see Importing historical data.
